Kearney, NE – The Tri-City Storm (29-23-2-2) were shut out 3-0 Wednesday night by the Omaha Lancers (35-16-2-3). Zach Driscoll of the Lancers was perfect, stopping all 30 shots faced. The shutout was Driscoll’s 7th of the season. There is now only 1 spot remaining in The West for the 2017-2018 USHL playoffs. With a 6-2 win over The Des Moines Buccaneers, The Lincoln Stars have claimed the #5 spot. The Storm are still holding on to the last spot (6th place) with a 7 point lead over The Sioux City Musketeers.

Tri-City looked great in the 1st period. They played a much more controlled game than in games past. The Storm dominated in their attack zone. Joey Cipollone had a great chance off a juicy rebound from a shot by Ronnie Attard that just couldn’t be cleaned up by Jack Jensen. Omaha’s Brendan Furry was able to get his stick in the way and stopped the puck from going in, right on the goal line.

Ryan Savage opened the scoring for The Lancers on a wrist shot that screamed past Storm goalie Jake Barczewski. Savage’s unassisted goal was his 1st in a Lancers sweater. The 1st period would end with Omaha leading Tri-City 1-0. The Storm out shot The Lancers 10-7.

The 2nd period started with another assault by The Storm. Big hits and 11 shots highlighted The Tri-City Storm’s attempt to break The Omaha Lancers. Filip Suchy of Omaha was the only one to find the back of the net in the period. He scored his 32nd of the season on a wonky wrister from the point at the 10:07 mark. The lone assist was credited to Christian O’Neill. Suchy is 2nd in the league in points with 32 goals (3rd in goals) and 34 assists (7th in assists), totaling 66 points. Omaha carried a 2-0 lead into the final frame while being out shot 21-17.

Both teams started the 3rd period with a player in the box. The Storm’s Hugo Blixt and The Lancers’ Filip Suchy were each serving a minor for roughing. Omaha’s Cole Gallant put the final nail in the coffin at the 8:26 mark in the 3rd period. Gallant beat Barczewski top shelf, glove side with his 14th of the season. Assists were credited to Nick Perbix and Michael Mannara. The final from The Viaero Center: Omaha Lancers 3 – 0 Tri-City Storm.

Omaha Lancers’ Ryan Savage scored the game winner with his 32nd goal of the season. Zach Driscoll stood on his head and stopped all 30 shots from The Storm. Jake Barczewski stopped 25 of 28 shots faced for a .893 save percentage. Omaha closed out the season series 6-3 against Tri-City.
